Hey, Mike Sleeter here from My Two Wheel Life! Today, I’m diving into the VIAIR Every Vehicle Carry Rechargeable Portable Tyre Inflator, a handy little tool that’s perfect for anyone who rolls on air-filled tires. While VIAIR is well-known in the 4WD space, GoActive Outdoors has just introduced this compact inflator, and I’ve been putting it through its paces here on the Gold Coast of Australia on my Mtb, Road bike, Soccer balls and even putting moto tires on.

Is this inflator a viable alternative to grabbing a track pump on the way out the door? Let’s find out!

Overview

Measuring 7.01 x 4.85 x 20.24 cm and weighing just 665g, this battery-powered compressor features a 3-inch LED screen that displays pressure in bar, PSI, and KPA. With five preset modes tailored for different uses—gravel bikes, road bikes, MTBs, and cars—this inflator maxes out at 120 PSI, making it versatile for various applications.

The 12cm hose is designed for Schrader valves, but fear not! VIAIR includes a Presta adapter, a ball needle, and a fitting for inflating pool floats. It even comes with a handy carry bag and a small integrated torch for those tricky valve connections in the dark. Plus, it charges via USB-C, and the 18Wh battery takes about three hours to fully charge.

Impressions

Since the VIAIR compressor arrived, I’ve replaced my floor pump with it for most tasks. While this isn’t its intended use, it shows off what it can do—and where it might fall short.

I’ve inflated over two dozen tires, from quick top-ups on my gravel and mountain bikes to fully flat tires. I even seated a tight-fitting Goodyear Newton tire on a carbon rim without breaking a sweat. So far, I haven't drained the battery completely, but I’m down to one bar after all that use.

With five pressure modes—individual (3 PSI), car (26 PSI), motorcycle (26 PSI), bike (30 PSI), and ball (16 PSI)—it’s easy to set the desired inflation level. The auto shutoff feature is particularly useful for for moto and bike tires, preventing you from waiting forever for inflation.

For reference, it took just 1 minute and 15 seconds to inflate a 29x2.5-inch tire from zero to 21 PSI. That’s pretty impressive!

Pressure Gauge Accuracy

In terms of accuracy, the VIAIR inflator consistently reads 1.4 PSI higher than my daily-used Motion Pro tire gauge. While neither may be perfectly correct, the consistency helps me achieve the tire characteristics I want across different bikes.

One minor drawback is that using the Presta adapter can be a bit fiddly due to the Schrader design. However, swapping in a Presta chuck could improve the experience—though it adds to the overall cost.

Noise-wise, the VIAIR is nothing to worry about when mounting up tires late at night.

My Two WHeel Life verdict

Let’s be real: the VIAIR Every Vehicle Carry Rechargeable Portable Tyre Inflator is primarily an automotive product that works for bikes too. It’s not a replacement for a track pump, nor is it compact enough for on-the-go rides like some smaller pumps.

However, For $179.00 it’s perfect for keeping in my moto box for motos because the stock schrader valve is easy to work with , taking up less space while still being effective for tire top-ups in the morning. While it may seem a bit slow, the convenience of the VIAIR compared to the time spent with a track pump is pretty comparable.

So, will the VIAIR Every Vehicle Carry Rechargeable Portable Tyre Inflator replace your garage air compressor or road cycle floor pump? Probably not. But is it a great tool to have in your car or tool box for those unexpected flat tires or a weekend away? Absolutely!
