 Troy Lee Designs has been known for being one of the most forward thinking and creative apparel brands in the market. Owning a Factory supported race team, pushing design is all part of the DNA of what we know is TLD. The all new SE5 helmet is latest push from the man himself Troy Lee. He wanted to design a develop a helmet that stayed true to the design features but elevate the most important thing and this is safety of the helmet.

I have spent the last 2 months using the TLD SE4 Helmet and have been happy with its fit and comfort, so I was very excited to start putting time on the SE5 helmet. The noticeable differences I noticed when putting on the helmet was the weight and comfort. The SE5 had much more comfort on my forehead and on the back of my head.  It’s summertime here in Queensland, Australia with a lot of humidity so when hitting the track, the venting was the best I’ve felt in a helmet. My only concern with this is when you are in a heated battle will the roost blow out the vents? In my stage of riding, I won’t be trying to catch a bunch of roost so it should be fine for me. 

The features and benefits of the SE5 Carbon features an optimized layup carbon shell, lightweight titanium d-rings, dual-density EPS, in-molded MIPS brain protection system, EPP chin bar liner with collarbone suspension system, quick release XT2 3D cheek pads and an X-Static / XT2 washable liner, and smart shear plastic visor screws for easy impact break-away. 

My final verdict on the TLD SE5 helmet is that it is a big improvement in comfort and venting. The look of the helmet is great no matter what colour way you choose from and having helmet shells sized appropriate to the internals is so important to me so that you stay away from the bobble head look and feel. In 2022 I can say I feel that this is a helmet that I will be confident riding and racing in.
