Temple Farmhouse Byron Bay – A Hidden Gem That Completely Blew Me Away

Temple Farmhouse Byron Bay – A Hidden Gem That Completely Blew Me Away

Every now and then, you stumble across a place that exceeds every expectation you had. Temple Farmhouse, just outside Bangalow in the Byron Bay hinterland, is one of those places.

This all started with a phone call from Lawrence Temple, founder of Temple Farmhouse, and his wife Alita. Lawrence is an avid motocross rider, and like most of us dirt bike tragics, the conversation quickly turned to riding. He mentioned he had a property and invited me up for a weekend ride with Mason.

What he didn't mention was what we were actually arriving at.

In fact, Lawrence downplayed it so much that on the drive up I genuinely asked him, "Mate, are we tenting it, or do I actually have a place to stay?"

I think I probably insulted him.

I loaded up Mason, called a few mates including Matthew McFarren, his partner April, Harry Bink, Al Emery and a handful of local legends, and we headed up expecting a fun weekend on dirt bikes.

What we found was one of the most impressive properties I've ever stayed at.

The Arrival

As you wind your way through the Byron hinterland, Temple Farmhouse slowly reveals itself amongst rolling hills and rainforest. The setting alone is enough to make you pull over and take a breath.

Then you see the Hangars.

Four architecturally designed luxury cabins sit perfectly within the landscape. Not overpowering it. Not competing with it. Just complementing it.

Mason and I stayed in Hangar Four and from the moment we opened the door, we were blown away.

The fit and finish is world class.

I've worked hard over the years and I'm fortunate enough to have a beautiful home myself, but walking through these cabins gives you inspiration. Every detail has been thought through. Every finish feels intentional. Every space feels calm.

It's the sort of place that immediately makes you start taking mental notes for your own home.

The materials, the textures, the lighting, the views—it all just works.

The Best Kind of Luxury

What impressed me most wasn't just how beautiful everything was.

It was how comfortable it felt.

Luxury can sometimes feel cold or untouchable.

Temple Farmhouse feels the opposite.

You instantly relax.

You walk slower.

You talk longer.

You stop checking your phone.

You actually sit and enjoy where you are.

The communal pavilion became the heart of the weekend. Built with beautiful hardwoods and overlooking endless green paddocks, it's the kind of place where conversations naturally flow.

Whether it was morning coffee looking out across the valley or sitting around after dinner with a beer in hand, it just felt right.

Dirt Bikes and Good People

Now let's not forget why we were there.

Out the back of the property sits an absolutely epic motocross track.

And when I say epic, I mean genuinely impressive.

We spent Saturday and Sunday riding with friends, battling a bit of mud thanks to some rain, but honestly, that only added to the fun.

Watching Mason ride with his mates, seeing everyone laughing, bench racing and enjoying themselves reminded me why I love this sport so much.

It's never just about the bikes.

It's about the people.

Lawrence and Alita have created an environment where both come together perfectly.

The Food, Spa and Sauna

As if the riding wasn't enough, Saturday night we were treated to an incredible three-course meal.

Great food.

Great company.

Great stories.

After dinner we wandered down to the spa and sauna.

Nestled amongst the landscape, the cedar hot tub and black sauna create this incredible Nordic-inspired wellness retreat that somehow feels perfectly at home in the Australian countryside.

The contrast between a hot sauna session and the cool hinterland air is something special.

By the time we headed back to the cabin, everyone was completely relaxed.

Why I'll Be Back

As much as I loved the riding weekend, the funny thing is that by the end of it I wasn't thinking about dirt bikes.

I was thinking about bringing my wife Sarah back.

No kids.

No devices.

No schedule.

Just the two of us.

A book.

A bit of stretching.

A soak in the spa.

A sauna session.

Some amazing food.

And a few days of complete disconnection from the outside world.

Temple Farmhouse is one of those rare places that allows you to genuinely slow down.

To breathe.

To reconnect.

To appreciate where you are.

Final Thoughts

Lawrence and Alita Temple have poured an incredible amount of time, money, energy and heart into creating something truly special.

Temple Farmhouse isn't just accommodation.

It's an experience.

Whether you're a rider looking for an unforgettable weekend with friends, a couple needing a luxury escape, or someone simply wanting to disconnect and recharge, this place delivers in every possible way.

From the stunning Hangars and communal pavilion to the spa, sauna, rainforest surroundings and incredible hospitality, everything has been thoughtfully crafted.

I've stayed in a lot of places over the years.

Very few leave a lasting impression.

Temple Farmhouse is one of them.

And I can't wait to go back.
