Boomerang Dirt Jumps and Pump Track
Boomerang Dirt Jumps and Pump Track Reviow
On the day I headed out to Boomerang Farm, the weather was iffy, with rain threatening in every direction. But Ryan Slavin and I decided to roll the dice and take Mason and his two nephews to check out the dirt jumps and pump track for the first time. Although we’ve ridden the trails at Boomerang Farm before and had a great time, we had no idea what to expect from the dirt jumps and pump track.
Ryan mentioned that the dirt jumps and pump track are usually open once a month, but it’s best to check their social media for the most up-to-date information, as the weather can affect opening times. On the day we rode, we were lucky enough to drive right up to the jumps in my van, but typically, riders need to ride up a 10-minute shuttle road to get to the jumps, so be prepared for that if you're visiting.
It’s worth mentioning that I wasn’t riding that day – it was just Mason on the dirt jumps. Mason is still relatively new to steep dirt jumps, so he was really excited but also a bit nervous to try out the jumps here. The jumps at Boomerang are covered with plastic to help prevent ruts from the region’s typical sub-tropical rain, which is smart, as the weather can get pretty unpredictable. When we arrived, the team was prepping the main line, which was looking pretty gnarly, as pro riders were about to put on a show for us later.
Due to the rain, only one of the novice lines was open, but that ended up being perfect for Mason to get comfortable with the transitions. The novice line has three small tables and a small double gap, which you can go around if you don’t have enough speed to clear it. Mason took a few runs to get the hang of it, and after a couple of laps, he really started to dial it in. It was a fun, safe line that helped him work on building confidence and learning the basics of jumping on dirt.
As for the pump track, it was in decent shape. I’ve seen it looking smoother in pictures, but the Gold Coast soil, with its mix of clay and rocks, can be tough to keep dialed in. On the day we were there, it was still rideable, and Mason had fun, especially when he got to try his first wall ride, which was a cool milestone for him. The locals do a great job of tuning it up for the bigger jam sessions, but on this day, it wasn’t perfect – still fun, but a little rougher than usual.
The main line, though – wow! I really wish I had a dirt jumper with me that day. The jumps were dialed to perfection, and the pro riders on hand were boosting huge, putting on an impromptu X-Games-style show for us. It was great to see Mason’s reaction – it felt like his own private session with the pros. Big thanks to those riders for being so cool with the kids and showing off their skills.
Final Verdict: Should You Check Out the Dirt Jumps at Boomerang Farm?
If you’re on the Gold Coast and into dirt jumps or BMX riding, absolutely! For just $20 to ride, it’s definitely worth it. If you’re a beginner like Mason, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to progress on the novice line and get comfortable with dirt jumping. For a more well-rounded day, I’d recommend hitting the dirt jumps in the morning and then riding the trails afterward. Just make sure to check in at the office before you head up to the jumps.
Overall, it was a great experience, especially for someone new to dirt jumps like Mason. I’m excited to come back next time, and I think Mason will be even more confident after this visit!
