In 2021 Helmet education is at an all time high. Riders and Family’s alike are more knowledgeable then ever before. FLY Racing has been known for being a family brand with great racing apparel for all ages. Although they offered a helmet and many top racers wore it, it wasn’t known for being a premium helmet when it came to safety and comfort.
The all new Formula carbon helmet has hit the market and is now a player in the premium helmet market. I have never worn FLY gear let alone a helmet, and I take my helmet choices very serious. I was educated on the feature and benefits of the Formula helmet from FLY brand manager and former racer Jeff Northrop. The features and benefits of the Formula helmet are meet the industry standards and more. The Adaptive Impact System (AIS) is clearly the platform that the team at FLY racing has elevated the helmet in safety. The data and technology of the helmet is proven in the laboratories but it’s very important the comfort and look are on the same standard.
The look of the FLY Formula helmet is very good in my opinion. The scale of the outer shell is sized appropriate and doesn’t have a bobble head look like other models on the market. The graphics have a good look that matches multiple colorways.
Once I put the helmet on, I was very impressed with the comfort and fit. The ear pocket was open and the front and back of my head didn’t have any pressure points. One of the best parts of the helmet in my opinion was how the helmet dissipated noise. I don’t like earplugs so having a helmet that reduced the noise was an added value. The vision and is great but it did take me a minute to get used to seeing the visor. The visual while wearing the helmet made me think that my visor was low, but when I take it off and check it the visor is in the correct position. After I put multiple days in this helmet in different brand goggles, I noticed the sweat retention was better than other helmets that I have worn.
After a few long days on the bike I was very comfortable in the Formula helmet. It performed well but I can’t tell you how it feels when taking a hit to the head nor do I want to, but I can tell the feel of the helmet gives me confidence as much as the data FLY gives you. When buying a new helmet, I would recommend putting the FLY Formula helmet on and you instantly feel a premium helmet that has data that shows it being an industry leader in safety.
