KYB conversion for your WP AER forks

There is no doubting that the KTM/Husqvarna crowd would like to see something more when it comes to their forks. The WP AER fork lacks confidence and the wheel speed when breaking over extensive chop is a lot more than a KYB or Showa fork. The other problem with the AER fork is the fact that it sits all alone on an island being the only air fork on a production motorcycle, so when the bike gets stacked against its competitors it has its own feel and way of maintenance so that makes it tough for that fork to not feel inferior.

Editor aka “boss man” Don Maeda is not a fan of the WP AER  forks so he reached out to his brother Ross to build him some Factory KYB forks to use on his FC350. It’s not a secret that Ross Maeda from Enzo racing is the best when it comes to KYB forks and tuning. Ross utilized the stock upper fork tubes and got them Kashima coated. He then ditched the lower lugs and went to a new DLC coated lower with a set of technical touch fork lugs utilizing the stock axle. This essentially made these forks a KYB Yamaha for and the look is full factory that is for sure.

How did it perform? I’m very experienced with how a good handling 350 should work and it didn’t take me long to realize that Ross knocked it out of the park! He did a great job with slowing down that wheel speed and overall touch that the old air fork had problems with. The KYB internals gave me more confidence and better overall feel improving my riding experience. To keep the balance good Enzo racing revalved the stock shock and it performed quite well. I honestly didn’t have any complaints with the shock in stock form so making it better is quite tough.

Should you get this KYB conversion kit for your Husqvarna or KTM? If you don’t have a problem checking your air or handling with your existing fork then NO leave it! If you want to get a revalve or go to an aftermarket fork then yes this is the right fork upgrade for you. Even if you saved some money and didn’t do all the bling it’s still going to make you like your Austrian machine that much more fun to ride.
