Kawasaki has came out swinging with the 2021 KX 250f. An all new chassis that mimics the very popular KX450 as well as a motor package that has been improved for more over rev and top end power. In 2021 you will not have to kick start the 250 or adjust a cable clutch with the model coming with a electric start and hydraulic clutch like it’s competition.

Chassis

Kawasaki has taken it’s championship proven KX450f chassis and applied that technology to the 250f. With an all new chassis and new suspension settings once I hit the track I knew the team at Kawasaki R&D did their homework. Once I started to warm up and get comfy on the KX250f I could tell right away It had a very balanced feeling and great comfort. I could push the bike extremely hard and had no issues with the fork diving or shock moving around too much. I made some small adjustments to the shock to calm it down when entering the turn but overall they nailed the settings out of the box

Motor

It didn’t take me long to feel the changes to the KX250f. Perris Raceway has some really great dirt that allows you to accelerate hard without breaking traction but still loose enough you don’t have to manage the throttle. The new motor package and extra 350 rpm up top brings the bike to life compared to the 2020. From mid to top the motor is lively and exciting to ride. I would want a little more bottom end toque so I could roll 3rd gear on easier without having to stab the clutch on longer flat turns. Speaking of clutch the new clutch design that emulates the KTM style spring clutch allows you to control the power and the feel is great with the hydraulic clutch.

Overall

When coming out with an all new bike it can be a risk because you are under the gun with time and a market waiting for something that will be mind blowing. History shows it usually takes a year of working out some gremlins and technology that the consumers and market feel need to be changed. The 2021 KX250f has flipped the script in 2021 and has delivered a very competitive motorcycle with no weak links to speak of. I look forward to November 10th where our Swapmoto Live team will find out what the best 250f is in the 2021 shootout.
