A1 Ride Daze
For over 10 years I went into A1 hoping I did the work and I was prepared for the long season. Now days I look forward to A1 ride daze and pedaling with past, current, and up and coming supercross champions. Rock N’ Road cyclery’s 9th anniversary of the A1 ride daze was one for the books. It’s no secret that cycling and mountain bike racing is huge part of the top riders training program, but it’s not often you can pedal with the likes of Adam Cianciarulo, Shane McElrath, Justin Brayton, Nick Wey, Jeremy Mcgrath, Jeff Ward, Johnny O’mara, Curtis Keene, Spencer Rathkamp and other two-wheel bad asses the day after the opening round of supercross at Angel Stadium.
We left the Rock N’ Road Mission Viejo location and went up to the top of luge where I would drop in and be heckled by 4-time mtb world champion Brian Lopes. The luge trail is a staple of east Orange County for a good reason. The climb up can sting a bit but once you reach the American flag at the peak you are rewarded with “the luge” a 4 minute plus flow type trail that makes you want more once you get to the bottom.
One of the great things about this year was you had a large number of riders on e-bikes of all levels and genders including Troy Lee and other Specialized athletes like McGrath and AC. The E-bike movement has bridged the gap for people who don’t have the time to put the miles in to enjoy 2,000 ft of climbing with the most elite athletes. The range of bikes was also impressive from 170mm trail bike, XC hard tails and I think I even saw a few gravel bikes in the mix. The parody is part of the experience and this group ride did just that. Thank you, Rock N,’ Road and Specialized for putting on a great event I had a blast and look forward to the 10th annual event next year.
