Quick N' Dirty
It’s late summer, the trails are dry and beat up and I’m having trouble finding motivation to ride my Mountain Bike. I’m coming off an injury so I’m not in the shape I need to be smashing pedals with the Cat 1 group, but I know I need to get back to the races. Former jet ski world and national champion, Cat 1 National mountain bike and cyclocross champion Victor Sheldon has been putting on a cross country mountain bike series called the Quick N’ Dirty in Escondido, CA the past few years and it has only been getting bigger and better each year.
Last week I decided to break out my Intense Spider that is 150mm of travel to go race in their all new class called “Broduro” This class is a open skill level class for ages 16 and up and your bike must weigh 27lbs. This is a perfect class for me to get back to threshold type of training, but on a safe bike while I’m still recovering from injury. The Quick N’ Dirty series has the standard age group/skill level classes that most national and local series has but this class is to get guys that have only a trail bike out to race with their friends so they can shed some pounds or just settle a strava war.
I had a blast at the race even though I got a flat on the end of lap 1 for the simple reason that this a family and friend ran series. Since I got a flat I ran to my truck and grabbed my GoPro to document the nights festivities. What cool about this event is when show up you are met with smiles, hugs and even a Stone beer if you want. The series offers great prizes for all the classes winners and even awesome raffles for the community of friends and family that are supporting racers. The bottom line is this race series is a must attend if you live near Escondido due to one simple thing. Victor is a racer and knows what racers want and need a great course, good awards and fun atmosphere. Victor, his family and staff do all of the above all summer long and I can promise you I will be there as much as my schedule allows.
