Surfing with the Gold Coast Surf Experience

Taylor is giving Nixon and Mason a quick briefing before they paddled out.

As a parent, few moments are as rewarding as seeing your child try something new and succeed. Recently, Mason received a fantastic birthday gift from our friends Clint and Luanne Stewart—a surf lesson with Taylor McNeil from Gold Coast Surf Experience. Taylor trains their son Nixon, a talented young surfer, so we were excited for Mason to start his surfing journey with Taylor and the other young surfers.

Although Mason was initially a bit intimidated by the prospect of paddling out with experienced groms, I’m thrilled to share that the experience was outstanding.

From the moment we arrived at Kirra Beach, it was clear that Gold Coast Surf Experience had everything well-organized. The stunning beach setting, perfect weather, and even the challenging waves due to overnight winds made for an exciting environment. Taylor, both professional and incredibly welcoming, set a positive tone for the day. Despite the small, choppy waves, he assured Mason and the other boys that they would have a great time and learn from the conditions.

Mason arrived full of excitement and nerves, but Taylor’s calm and engaging approach quickly put him at ease. The lesson began with a thorough yet approachable briefing on surf safety, basic techniques, and handling the surfboard. Taylor’s clear instructions made it easy for Mason to grasp the basics.

When it was time to hit the waves, Mason was eager to get started. Taylor offered hands-on support and encouragement, helping him build confidence without taking over. It was incredible to see Mason quickly pick up the basics and start catching small waves. The look of achievement on Mason’s face as he rode a wave at Kirra was priceless.

What impressed me most was how Taylor personalized his approach to each student, ensuring everyone felt included and motivated. The positive reinforcement and constructive feedback were crucial in boosting Mason’s confidence. Taylor’s passion for teaching and commitment to his students’ success was evident throughout the lesson.

As the lesson concluded, Mason couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had and how excited he was to surf again. Seeing his enthusiasm for a new sport was incredibly rewarding. The entire experience at Kirra Beach was more than just a lesson; it was a memorable day for our whole family.

In summary, if you’re considering introducing your child to surfing, I highly recommend Gold Coast Surf Experience at Kirra Beach. The combination of beautiful scenery, expert instruction, and a supportive environment made Mason’s first surf lesson an unforgettable adventure. I’m confident that this is just the beginning of an exciting surfing journey for Mason.
