Round 2 of the 125 Triple Crown at Herve Bay

In typical Sleeter fashion the night before we leave for Herve Bay I lean on my dude Dylan O’keefe to help me slap on the new Phathead cylinder head that came all the way from the states. When we pulled the cylinder off to put in a Vertex piston my heart dropped. The cylinder did not look good with a huge skid mark on the exhaust side. Because I was last minute Larry and didn’t have time to hone it I just grabbed the scotch bright and lube and went to town. I did what I could put the cylinder back on and applied the phathead head. I decided to go with insert that the 2nd most compression and used two gaskets for proper deck height. I gave it a kick and it fired up and it sounded good. Next was putting on the all-new Apex bar mounts to improve comfort in my hands and the Maxxis sand tire so I can hook up in the Herve Bay sand that I have yet to ride.


Saturday, I put the work boots on worked with my MXstore team to put up all of the flags and banners while the Gals merchandised the activation pod so we could elevate the club day. The track looked epic with smooth prepped white sand and I couldn’t wait to ride the next day. This round of the triple crown was at a club day, so it was cool that Mason was able to race with me. Mason didn’t have much time in the sand, so it was a great opportunity for him to race another new track. Before we go into race mode, we took Sarah out for a very special Mother’s Day. Noah and Mason spoiled their Mum with an amazing dinner at Enzo’s on the beach in Herve Bay. I highly recommend hitting Enzo’s if you are in Herve Bay. It was one of the best meals with and epic vibes at a jaw dropping location.

 I got through practice without falling down this round, but I won’t lie I was more pumped my bikes lived after putting a fresh top end in it. The track was tough in practice because it was smooth and fast and I didn’t feel comfy so I couldn’t wait for the track to roughen up a little bit. The first moto was up and it was concrete start which I was stoked on. I got off the line good next to Cobbin as we drag raced down the long start straight. I was in 4th rounding the first turn and latched on to the front group but after a second lap tip over I was like WTF! I picked my fat ass up and got back up going and was having a blast battling it out with the boys. On the second to last lap I was in 4th all over 3rd and as the white flag came out Elijah Wiese tucked the front and it was on! On the last lap Elijah Wiese, “NAME” and myself sent it all the way to the line where I would get the nod and get 2nd. Cobbin ended up winning and far out front with current red plate holder Prongy was 6th.

 

Second Moto was up soon but the first moto I heard my bike detonate a little bit so decided to do a last-minute change to the jetting. I dropped the clip and richened it up so I wouldn’t blow the ol’ girl up. I got the bike back together and it was not as clean on the stand but the track is wide open so I didn’t think it would affect me too much. The gate dropped and another good jump and swung off the back drag racing the boys where I would get the Shred Wash holeshot award. I rounded the second turn out front and I might sound like an arrogant dick but I knew it was mine haha… Two laps in I felt good and was flowing so good and built up a little gap. Heading into the last lap I could feel Prongy breathing down my neck. He made some good runs on me but I was able to hold him off and finally get a F’n win. It felt good really good! I don’t care that it was 20 dude racing 125’s but I felt good on the bike and that makes me stoked!

 

The highlight of my day wasn’t my riding it was watching Mason ride 3 great motos on a rough demanding sand track. Herve Bay was new to both of us and it was awesome but it wasn’t easy. Mason has had a few race days but he hasn’t made it through a race say without a crash in one of those motos. The first moto Mason was ripping but he had a tip over in the first moto and I was like uggghhh come on kiddo you need to just keep it up on two wheels. We talked about it in between motos and the second and third moto he rode so well. Mason got good starts and made good race decisions each and every lap to finish a solid second overall at his first race day at Herve Bay.
