Thule Roundtrip Duffel Bag

Thule Roundtrip Duffel Bag

Having the right travel bag for your cycling equipment is a very overlooked item for the average consumer. I don’t know why this is because most riders can’t ride their mountain bike from their garage, so I’m thinking these riders must be using a backpack, duffel bag or even a grocery bag to store their gear when traveling to the trail or destination of choice unless they are suited and booted driving down the road. If you are one of those rider’s please stop and read this!

I have used many different ways to carry and organize my bike equipment when traveling local and even abroad, but I have never been they hyped on a certain bag and I’d say I have tried them all from a carryon luggage bag, backpack, duffel bag and just a simple backpack. What my biggest issue with all of these is it was hard to stay organized and all my gear, tools, co2 was just stacked into a pile would just fall to the bottom of the bag and I would dig through it like a bag of candy on Halloween. Before I left for Australia, I purchased a Thule roundtrip to make sure I was dialed because I wouldn’t have a garage for a few months. Thule is known for its quality as well as fit and finish so as soon as my bag arrived, I was instantly stoked. The quality of the material, zippers, dividers, and overall size of the bag was just what I was looking for because I would be using it for mountain bike and road, so it needed to be able handle my needs for road, and mountain bike.

A few key features that I want to point out asre the sunglass, helmet, shoe, and dirty gear comportments. It’s really important to me to have my glasses, helmet, shoes and dirty gear separate, so my glasses and helmet doesn’t get scratched, my shoes don’t get my clean gear dirty, and once I’m done riding my dirty gear won’t stink up my other gear in the bag. Once I started packing my bag using the divider system’s I was blown away with how much gear I could put in it. The true test was when I went to Maydena for the Australian Nationals and I needed to be prepared for Endure, XC, cold and warm weather, tools, and even sealants and lubricants. One of the key components to storing your soft goods is you roll up each garment into a compartment, so it’s organized and away from other garments in your bag. You will see by the pictures below what I was able to bring in one bag was simply mind blowing for being a carryon size. The divider system does come out if you want use it for a different purpose or more shoes and another helmet.

Items I had in my main storage for a weeklong trip consisted of a trail bike helmet, XC and trail bike shoes, two sets of lycra, two pairs of sunglasses, 1 goggle, 3 jerseys, two pairs of shorts, 3 pairs of gloves, 3 pairs of socks. In the side pocket I had the following Multi-tool, sealant, 3 gels, derailleur hanger, sunscreen, brake pads, chain lube, hear rate monitor, electrolytes, and even brake fluid. This bag was a key component to me making my trip organized and efficient it held up to the rain, dirt and mud and when packing up and coming home it’s a very clean not over branded piece of luggage.

As you can tell I’m stoked on this bag and I won’t travel to a ride close or far without because my gear is organized and my product that I need to use on occasion but not every ride can stay in it and not live at the bottom of a backpack where I will never find it when I need it.
