FLY Racing Zone Goggle

FLY Zone Goggle

FLY racing continues to press the moto market with innovative premium products with the all-new ZONE goggle. In 2021 bringing in on top riders such as Justin Brayton, Mitchell Harrison and Mitchell Oldenburg of Muc-Off Honda they made sure they wanted to make sure they had a goggle that would perform at the highest level. I just want to clarify FLY racing has had goggles in the past but nothing at a level of what they are trying to accomplish with the ZONE Goggle.

In 2021 the goggle market is a very competitive space that is predominantly lead by just goggle/eyewear specific companies so when FLY launched the ZONE goggle, I was extremely excited to put some time in it. Upon receiving the goggle, I can tell you that they have moved in the right direction when it comes to the look and overall fashion for the goggle from years past. The Zone Goggle when to an outrigger frame to help with the overall fit and comfort. Unlike other outrigger goggles the frame is a little smaller. This allows the goggle to be used by a wider range of helmets and youth riders still utilizing a 45mm strap like its competitors. The Zone goggle emulates the 2021 range with its clean simple colorways and graphics that will match perfectly with FLY apparel or even other gear/helmet manufactures.

My first impression putting the goggle on was the seal around my face felt extremely good. The foam was comfortable and allowed for a great seal. As I stated before the frame is a little smaller so I could see a little bit of the frame around my eyes, but nothing that makes me concerned of a loss of vision because of the frame. When talking about goggle foam it’s a tough balance too firm and it’s not comfortable, too soft and the frame hits your face. After putting in a long moto I had to make sure that I didn’t have the goggle on too tight or I would collapse the foam and that would allow for sweat to leak through the foam. The two-stage foam could be denser and allow for a slower blead for sweat. The Zone goggle came with a mirrored lens, but I do have to say I went to the clear lens pretty quick. The mirrored lens has a great look, but it was slow to color change through the lens. You might think I am crazy saying this but when having a mirrored lens, the quality of the lens helps with the processing of color. I have used much worse lenses, but I have also used better where it helps with a crisp quality view that is actually better than your actual eye. I’d say it’s like viewing a good TV to a Premium TV. Both get the job done but one has just better clarity when changing color quicker and on a motorcycle vision is key. When taking the lens out to put the clear lens I noticed they have done a great job with a secure fit but not to secure that you can’t get a lens in the goggle in a timely manner.

The Verdict

Fly Racing has stepped up their game with ZONE goggle and is one of the better goggles put out by an Apparel company. That being said it’s not fair to compare the goggle to a Premium high price point goggle. If you are comparing it to the price point competitors, it’s right there with the competition I just like them to work on the lens quality and overall sweat retention because the design and fit hits the mark.
