Testing FCP engine mounts

I’ve been riding my 2019 Simi Valley Yamaha 450 since January and I have since learned what exactly what I need out of the chassis. The shock has a little too much movement and gets deep in the stroke under high speed load, so I would have to be cautious when pushing hard under load but I don’t want to sacrifice the comfort that I have in chop. The front end of the bike has really good comfort, but it would want to step away with out me knowing under hard braking and fast flat turns with chop. After Mammoth I have been wanting to get my suspension to my friend Rick Gilmour from KYB or Enzo to get me a good base setting but the reality is I have been so busy with PNG I just kept riding it.

This brings me to how I was able to try the FCP moto mounts. I was out at Milestone filming with my crew from Swapmoto Live for Answer Racing and the team from FCP was out there and I just said hey! Let me try these things. They started the sales pitch and I was like stop it! If I like them I’ll buy them. FCP were kind enough to throw on the mounts and started again to tell me what I should feel. That’s not good in my opinion lets me try them and feel for myself. I went out on a well developed track on a Thursday afternoon at Milestone and noticed right away that my chassis was more stable when putting it under load “heavy acceleration”. What I mean by this is when I came across flat turns and hit the side of the track or hit ruts hard and then applied a lot of throttle I had more control and the bike stayed stable. This comes from the titanium material in the FCP lower mounts to allow that part of the chassis to be more stiff in those situations. They claim more traction and I wouldn’t say that I had a huge amount of traction gains but the bike was more stable under hard acceleration which correlates to traction in my opinion.

The front end of the bike had a little more feedback but for me it allowed me to have more confidence in the front end when I was under braking. With slightly more feedback and a little bit less comfort the slower or lighter rider might not like it but I do prefer the gains and don’t mind losing the comfort and added feedback in my hands. The dampening didn’t change under straight line hard hits and I was happy about that because I feel Yamaha is close on the production setting.

The engine decal is no longer there bit the motor mounts are. The fit and finish is really good.

So, should you buy FCP motor mounts for your bike? It depends on a few things. I think most riders suspension is way past it’s service date so its blown out and isn’t where you should start. The other thing is some aftermarket suspension companies are using your bike to learn settings and that could mean your bike works worse than stock. What I’m getting at is make sure you know what you are looking for because these FCP mounts don’t fix a bad re-valve or blown shock and fork. If you are looking to refine your already good set up bike then yes FCP motor mounts can help you really dial in your bike for your needs. From different materials to torque specs chassis components make big changes and these FCP mounts really do help the 2019 YZ 450 besides the hurting rainbow decals.
